companion levitating won't follow through teleport door
      #2912969 - 08/10/04 05:52 PM

Well, I got another companion problem. I need her to levitate with me up to a trap door in the ceiling and follow me through it. She levitates with me OK, be when I activate the trap door, she doesn't follow me through it, even though she's right next to me. Has anyone encountered this before and know of a solution? I could just make specific code on the trap door to MAKE her go through with me by doing a positionCell or something, but I'd rather find something that works in all instances, not just that room.

you could try removing the spell when you activate the door. but i guess that wouldn't work in all instances.

Yeah, I thought of that, but that would actually be harder than doing a position cell, because I have a 'state' that you can ask her to be in which is a levitate-when-I-do thing. So I'd have to make an additional allowance for that instance in her own script. For now I'm just doing the postionCell. I was just hoping someone may have run into this before an knew a simple trick -or point out something I'm doing wrong.

Known problem... Been around for a loooong time.

Sometimes if you wait a suitable amount of time, then move, they will appear.

What I see when this happens:

-Teleport and no companion
-Pull the console and do a distance check. Generally comes back some outlandish number like 72,000gu for the census and excise office.
-Close the console and wait a few seconds and then do another distance check.
-Mine always came back something like 114gu, but no companion...
-Now move a bit and see if she pops out of the void and starts following.

According to Emma, The OtherFelix is using some kind of delay for the companion (Laura)to work around this problem, but I've never looked at it.

Not sure, but what Vorwoda has done with his companion friendly doors might work as well.

If she is within a suitable distance (< 1200gu (est.)) of the door, you should keep her from levitating, and she will follow normally.

BTW: They go to the 0,0 cell during the delay mentioned above. I tracked her down one day...

Thanks Grumpy! I had a feeling you'd know about this, being the companion guy. I'll take a look at the Laura script.
