Need some help with shopkeeper creation.

How can I make it so that an item belongs to a shopkeeper, but yet they won't sell the item?

Easiest way to is adjust the categories of items the Merchant is allowed to sell. Click the AI button and look under the Services tab. Uncheck, say 'Ingredients' and they won't be able to sell any of those you put in their inventory.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't easily script around selling specific items within a category. The scripts can't intervene in the Barter process directly, although I suppose you could check the player's inventory after bartering for a specific item after and remove it. That would probably annoy the player, of course.

You could also make the object belong to someone else like "A shady smuggler". As long as the shopkeep's alarm is 100 he should still report the crime and come after you.

I had similar problem with my shop mod. Didn't want trader to be abble to sell the items from display but didn't want to make theft easy either. At Tommy Khajjit's advice I've created trader's wife who owned the displayed goods. She didn't trade but shouted her head off when somebody tried to help themselfs to the goodies.

Perhaps a small example will makes things more clear.

In Julius and Celine Appoldro's weaponstore in Suran there are a lost of weapons and armor on display. They are all owned by Julius, the smith who made them. Julius will not barter with the player. Cleo (armor) and Celine (weapons) will sell similar items. Their merchandize is hidden in two chests, one filled with armor belonging to Cleo the other full with weapons belonging to Celine. Those chests are placed within the same cell, but outside the shop walls and are therefore invisible for the player.
